Guarene:
What
is called "the Castle of Guarene" is one of the most magnificent
and impressive private mansions in Piedmont area from the
18th century. It was built when the previous defensive medieval
fortress had no longer reason to exist. The Count Giacinto
Roero decided in 1725 to dismantle the old castle and to start
the construction of a residence for his family updated to
the changing times. He was active part in the Savoy Court
in Turin and he was aware of the new delightful way of living
mostly inspired to the French Aristocratic habits The Castle
was intended for refreshing retreat in warmer months of summer,
far from the busy town of Turin. The same Count Giacinto designed
the new building in strict accordance with the style of the
Famous sicilian architect Filippo Juvarra who was called to
the Savoy Court in Turin to design the most beautiful baroque
buildings of the town ( for instance the façade of Palazzo
Madama ). Interesting to know that the signature on the project
of the Castle of Guarene has been usually attributed to Filippo
Juvarra due to the beauty and harmony of the baroque style
of the construction.
